The Truth About Law School
There are financial incentives driving the focus of law schools. Law schools are funded in part by donations, which are more likely to come from lawyers that make a large salary, many times from biglaw alumni. So, law schools have a financial incentive to emphasize the biglaw career path, to create a larger biglaw donor pool.
But statistically, most law grads are not going to go to biglaw. So, it is incumbent upon most law students to create their own opportunities.
To build up your real-world experience, participate in a clinic. While I was in school, I worked in a clinic helping military members with legal issues, including a residential mold case.
Personal accountability is the best way to advance your career. A well-curated network - where you give more than you take - will serve you regardless of your class rank, law school, or work experience.
The 3L/4E year should be replaced with rotations similar to med school. The realities of practice are often not realized by students until after graduation. Do you agree?
