New Law School Grads, You Did It

🎓New Law School Graduates,

You did it.

⚖️You made it through one of the toughest academic programs anyone has ever gone through, and you made it out the other side.

Now you have the bar exam coming up in a couple of months.

⬇️Here are my tips for bar exam strategy - I hope they are useful to you!

1. Book Your Bar Exam Hotel Now and Splurge.

I booked my hotel for the Virginia Bar at the nicest place I could afford. I also got a room for the next night so I could go out and party with my friends.

While my partying days are long over, maybe this is something to treat yourself with. I still remember relaxing by the pool at my bar hotel the next day, and sleeping in the nice soft hotel bed - it was a wonderful treat. I have no regrets on that splurge. My colleagues that stayed at gross hotels do not have similar good memories, so choose wisely.

2. Pace Yourself.

Two months is more than enough time to get your studying in. Don't study at a feverish pace - this is a distance run. The goal is to cover the material, commit it to memory, and do many practice tests under test-like conditions. Don't burn yourself out.

3. Study YOUR Way.

Most of bar prep is memorization, test taking skills, and issue spotting. Study the way that works best for you - I made my own flashcards and then practiced with them over and over, because that is how I memorize things. I took multiple practice tests under test-like conditions to learn how to pace myself on the exam. Everyone learns differently, and this is your time to learn the way that works best for you.

🎇I wish you all the best in your legal career, and congratulations on this huge accomplishment!
