The Strangest Advice for Lawyers
THE STRANGEST ADVICE FOR LAWYERS...
Lawyers: This seems like a very strange piece of advice.
But it's something I wish I knew when I first started practicing.
And I use it each day.
We are not here to TELL clients what to do.
Here's actually what our clients need from us:
🔢All of their legal OPTIONS,
🤔What RISKS come with each legal option, and
🔮What we have seen based on our professional experience.
When I first started practicing, I was too opinionated on what I thought my clients should do.
We can give clients a recommendation on what to do if they ask, of course.
But the choice on WHAT to do is up to the client, because they are the ones that will suffer (or reap) the consequences (or benefits) of the choice.
