My Sober-versary

In July 2019, after 9 years of law practice, I started my own law firm, and a business coaching practice helping female lawyers. ⚖️

As I approach my 4 year business anniversary, I am about to have another anniversary – my sober-versary. 😊

In June 2019, I decided to go alcohol free. 🌠

A large reason I cut alcohol is due to its detrimental effects on sleep. 🛏️

I read every "quit lit" book I could get my hands on, and one was my convincer. 👇🏻

I read William Porter’s Alcohol Explained, which details how alcohol cuts your usual deep REM sleep cycles down from the double digits to 1-2 deep sleep cycles, or sometimes zero.

Deep sleep is restorative, repairing your body’s systems and fighting off illness.

For much of my legal career, I would get sick often, sometimes weekly, spending the weekend recovering from a cold so I could be well to work the following Monday. 🤒

Now I still catch the occasional cold, but no more than a few times a year, thank God. 🙏🏻

All of which is to say, I’m excited to be approaching my 4th soberversary, and in the legal industry no less, which heavily encourages alcohol and drug use to escape or numb the stressors of law practice. 4️⃣🎆

If you are sober-curious and want to talk about it, you can always feel free to email me, I’m happy to share more details about my alcohol free journey. 😊

In health and gratitude,

Katie
